Heart
Heart stones are extremely rare, in part because it’s difficult for a diamond cutter to achieve. But the unmistakable symbolism behind the shape (plus, the celeb appeal since Gaga’s infamous ring) makes it a new favorite. Between the difficulty in achieving this shape and the fact that the diamond needs to be pretty hefty for the heart form to come through (a small heart diamond can be hidden by its setting), expect to pay a premium for this rare gem.

Well-cut heart diamonds can be extremely sparkly and symmetrical, but make sure you get some extra help from a jeweler to ensure that the cut itself is of high quality. Hearts retain a bit of their color (hence why we sometimes see fancy colored heart diamonds), so if you don’t want any warmth in your stone, stick to a G color-grade or above. As far as clarity, we recommend a VS2 or above since the cut doesn’t hide inclusions as well as some other shapes. Like we said, if the heart is what you desire, it’d be wise to consult with a pro!
