Asscher
Asscher cuts are one of our personal favorites when done right. They are most similar to the emerald, but the ratio of an Asscher is typically a perfect square which makes gives it major sparkle points. Like emeralds, asschers are a step cut, meaning they have those cool depth-producing lines along the edge. Given that the entire stone is comprised of step cuts, most of the weight is up top, making it appear bigger than other shapes of a comparable carat size. Another plus? Asschers are a little more blingy than emeralds since they have more facets and in turn, makes them more brilliant. When you get an asscher that is cut into a perfect square, the symmetry goes to work to create an art-deco effect that only asschers can provide.

In terms of color and clarity, you still need to pay attention to these specs even though asschers are more brilliant than emeralds.
As you hopefully know by now, the sparklier a cut allows the stone is, the whiter it can look and the harder it works to hide inclusions. Asschers aren’t the sparkliest in the bunch and are still relatively see-through which means that clarity and color will shine through more than most stones. But this isn’t necessarily a bad thing—we think these characteristics are what makes asschers so beautiful. Your mileage may vary, but stick to G/H or VS2.
Aim for:
- Color: G/H
- Lowest Clarity: VS2
